Top 10 Glute Medius Strengthening Ideas (AWS)

Beth Scalone

The glute medius is the main muscle responsible for hip abduction, also aiding in rotation. Functionally, it is crucial for stabilizing the pelvis. When this muscle goes on vacation, it can lead to all sorts of lower body drama and back pain woes. Discover aquatic exercise progressions for strengthening the glute medius, ranging from basic to functionally complex movements.

Low Intensity Interval Training Integrations (LEC)

Lori Sherlock

Join Lori A. Sherlock, Ed.D., for an insightful session on Low Intensity Interval Training (LIIT). This class focuses on using low-intensity intervals to enhance recovery during transition phases of training. Learn how to apply periodization principles and Seyle’s General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS) to improve performance while minimizing injury risks. The workout features dynamic intervals and mobility drills to support effective recovery. Ideal for those looking to refine their recovery strategies and boost overall performance.

Take 20 (LAB)

Jackei Lebeau

Join Jackie for a discussion on how providing stretch breaks for corporate wellness, collegiate writing workshops, team building, and personal practice improves our concentration and focus. Take 20 (minutes that is!) to move, lengthen, and breathe through a guided stretch sequence and see for yourself how beneficial a short break can be to increase focus and productivity for the remainder of the afternoon.

Aging & Motor Activities (LAB)

Deborah Benetti

Transitioning adapted physical activities (APAs) into the aquatic environment further helps to counteract decreasing functional reserves of organs and systems associated with the aging process. Learn specific training methodologies and protocols for older adult populations that target more personalized instruction in an environment that is safe, supportive, and fun.

Mindful Moments for Arthritis (LAB)

Donna Lewen

Breaking the chronic pain cycle is an essential component to AEA Arthritis Foundation Exercise Programs. Discover ways to enhance the healing experience. Mindful moments allow the brain to enter the alpha brainwave state. Tension and relaxation, full relaxing breaths, and visualizing heavy and light techniques gently guide the body into the benefits of deep restorative rest.

Aqua Power Renovations (AWS)

Julie See

An innovative approach to water exercise that incorporates the basics in a unique format that intermixes grounded moves, plyometric training and creative cardio combinations.   Aqua Power Renovations is an upgraded version of the original Aqua Power with exciting new options to enhance your classes.

Ashley Bishop (Preview to 2025 Launch)

Thinking about becoming an industry leader?  Thinking you have got what it takes?  Join Ashley (and a few other heavy hitters) in this session that will introduce what’s to come in 2025!  AEA’s upcoming Presenter/Leadership Course will help you learn all you need to know to build your skills and bring your teaching to a new level to becoming a CEC Provider and industry Presenter!

HIIT for Aging Bodies (AWS)

Mark Grevelding

Despite our best efforts to attract more men and younger people to our water fitness classes with high intensity interval training (HIIT), the people who actually show up are older adults, and largely female. These are our faithful patrons and they are best served by designing high intensity exercise that is effective and appropriate for their aging bodies. Join Mark and take away ideas for making your HIIT programming more joint friendly and impact free.

Journey from Rehab to Fitness (LEC)

Kimberly Huff

The continuation of an appropriately designed exercise program is an important component of the rehab discharge plan, but home exercise is often not followed.   Supervision of a fitness professional or participation in group fitness may improve adherence.  Learn tips for incorporating and progressing home exercise programs to help clients continue their journey.

Improve Outcomes with Small Shifts (AWS)

Ruth Sova

Just as hand position can change gait or jogging, we can change client outcomes with small variations and additions to traditional exercises. Included in this course is eye gaze and activity to break up compartmental movement; a little vibration for homeostasis; positional variety for neuro/myo/fascial response; and contract relax to overcome the stretch reflex and improve ROM. These simple additions to any exercise can change them to focus on any neuro, ortho, pain and balance issues.

Aqua Yoga for the Core – Deck Teaching to Pool (LAB)

Cristina (Tinoca) Senra

Yoga for the Core:  Deck Teaching to Pool

Explore variations in Yoga as the “instructor” while teaching aquatic yoga sessions for clients and group exercise.  Discover modifications in movement to help all students experience the benefits of yoga in an aquatic environment.  Strengthen your skills and deck presence to provide beneficial wellness practices to all bodies!

NeuroFit: Patterns in Motion (LEC)

Javier Bergas

Prioritize functionality and movement patterns over muscle-centered workouts.

Elevate your approach to fitness by focusing on functionality as a cornerstone for sports performance, amateur fitness, or injury recovery programs in the pool.   Fundamental movement patterns are based on the brain understanding movement, not muscles.  Better address individual training needs.

Full Body Reset (LMC-Wind down)

Richard Gormley

This session is the perfect finisher after a full day of learning at BAFTC.  This slow-paced, seated and floor-based stretch class will focus on mobilizing the joints, followed by longer, restorative holds.  With mindful movements and plenty of progressions and modifications for all, you’ll be able to make this session exactly what your body is asking for.
