Intro to Fitness Consultation & Health Screening with Kim Huff

The Initial Consultation and Preparticipation Screening process are essential for ensuring safe and effective exercise recommendations. The consultation and screening are also part of the legal responsibilities of all fitness professionals. Understanding and applying this process will help properly screen clients and reduce potential liability risks related to exercise programming.

This course will guide you through the consultation and pre-participation screening process outlined in the American College of Sports Medicine’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription and review key topics necessary for fitness professionals to provide services that meet industry standards.

Participants will learn to:

•Recognize the advantages of conducting a comprehensive initial consultation and assessment for clients interested in a personal aquatic training program.

• Learn how to correctly use the ACSM Pre-participation Screening Algorithm to identify clients who might need a medical evaluation before starting a personal pool training program.

• Identify signs and symptoms indicative of cardiovascular, metabolic, or renal disease.

• Practice the initial consultation and pre-participation process using case studies.
